Collaboration with industry is a key focus for the NSW Government to achieve effective working relationships, to modernise working practices and to support a sustainable construction sector. The NSW Government is working closely with industry to effectively deliver its extensive pipeline of projects and to address gaps in both capacity and capability.
The partnership with industry is critical to the success of the NSW Government Action Plan: A ten point commitment to the construction industry and to fostering a sustainable and thriving construction sector. The NSW Government is committed to be a ‘best in class’ client for industry and its suppliers and it aims to address industry challenges through the ten point commitment.
Construction Industry Leadership Forum
The NSW Government is a founding member of the Construction Industry Leaders Forum (CILF), a joint forum of leaders from industry and the Victorian and NSW public sectors, that work together to drive improved collaboration and action around the procurement and delivery of major government infrastructure projects.
The CILF was established in 2017 to improve the effectiveness and value (to governments and industry) of the procurement and delivery of governments’ infrastructure programs. It brings together industry and government leaders to drive change, improve collaboration and long-term solutions to the challenges facing the construction industry. CILF provides an opportunity for open and robust dialogue on key construction industry issues in NSW and Victoria, to identify and facilitate improvements, and to foster that collaboration between senior representatives from government and industry.
The CILF’s primary objective is to ensure the industry remains sustainable and able to effectively and efficiently respond to the community’s infrastructure needs.
It is supported by industry members of the Australian Constructors Association (ACA), Infrastructure NSW (INSW) and the Office of the Coordinator-General of Victoria’s Major Transport Infrastructure Program (OCG), recognising that the challenges faced in NSW are also relevant nationally.
The CILF is aligned to the Construction Leadership Group, helping to implement some of the core areas in the ten point commitment.
The CILF is focused on three core areas:
- Industry Culture
- Commercial, procurement and risk allocation
- Capability and Capacity
